Cavinder Family November 2016

No need to gush about how stunning this family is…the photos speek for themselves. They make my job easy. As always, I am honored and humbled they would choose me to capture this fleeting moment in time. After the passing of my mother, I am convinced all the more of how important it is to do everything we can to create and capture memories with our loved ones while we still can.

Super Girl and the Pirate

SG&P.jpg

I came home from running errands the other day, and as I pulled in the driveway, this is what I saw…Super Girl and a pirate.

©janetphillips_september16_2016_web-1.jpg

©janetphillips_september16_2016_web-35.jpg

I got out of the car, grabbed my camera, and basked in the beauty of watching little ones play and use their imaginations. They soon had me running all over with them, showing me all their secret hiding spots and showing me their special powers. If only they knew the special power they have over my heart.

Only Two

Only Two.jpg

We gave the kids a choice. They could go on a hike with us, or they could stay home. We always hike together, so it was a surprise when only two chose to go.  My mama heart was a little sad, but it did allow me to spend some extra time with just these two cuties. With cooler temperatures around the corner, I am sure there will be much more of this.

Best Part of the Day

Run for God copy.jpg

Our Run for God race day was awesome. As I mentioned, I was so inspired as I watched friends and families love and support one another. It was an incredible day.

But I have to admit, one of the best parts of the day was watching this little guy swing before the race started. Seriosuly, could he be any cuter? I don’t think so. He’s the son of friends of ours and his smile and glee brighten up my day every time I see these photos. With as cute as they are, I am pretty sure three-year-olds could rule the world.

Run For God

Run for God.jpg

One of my favorite parts of being a photographer is the chance to see what others miss…the things that happen so freely and spontaneously we don’t even realize what we are doing. When I have my camera in hand and I just watch people do what they are doing, I see something so incredibly beauitful. It inspires me every day. Posed moments serve their purpose, but watching the spontenity of life and love and family and relationships? Priceless.

©janetphillips_runforgod_sept2016_web-22.jpgThis summer, a groups of friends and families took on the challenge to complete the Run for God program. This 12-week program encourages people to focus on improving health, relationships, and their intimacy with God.

©janetphillips_runforgod_sept2016_web-417.jpg

©janetphillips_runforgod_sept2016_web-39.jpg

Every Sunday evening, many of our friends—with theidr kids—gathered together to encourage one another, look at the Word, gain health and fitness advice, and run together. A private Facebook group pulled us together even when people couldn’t make the Sunday evening runs.

©janetphillips_runforgod_sept2016_web-260.jpg

It was truly inspiring. Beginning runners, advanced runners, walkers, kids, teens, adults, and grandparents all working toward the same goal.

©janetphillips_runforgod_sept2016_web-31.jpg

Race Day came and with it, over 100 registered runners/walkers of all ages. A 5K race and breakfast afterward. Beautiful. Tears filled my eyes a number of times (and I am not a cryer!) as I watched everyone truly love and support one another. I can’t explain it. It was one of the most special days in my life.

©janetphillips_runforgod_sept2016_web-27.jpg

  • There were mothers who forook their own times to run with a young daughter
  • There were spouses ready for their high five as they came across the finish line
  • There were siblings, who having already finished the race, ran back to run a little brother or sister across
  • There were friends holding hands as they encouraged each other to cross the finish line
  • There were spectators cheering everyone on
  • There were were toddlers and granparents…and everything in between.

And I got to witness it all, camera in hand.

Here are some photos of race day…scroll down for the video or click HERE

Let's Go For a Hike

Go For a Hike.jpg

Early spring camping is the best. Or maybe fall camping is the best. Or early summer camping is the best.

CAMPING IS THE BEST!

It was our first camping trip in a few months. New green leaves were making their appearance, the air was warm, and the camper was out.

The just-turned-five-year-old declared, “Let’s go for a hike!” I wasn’t able to go just then, but she kept asking. Finally, I told her I had some time before dinner. She promtly grabbed her PJ-dressed little brother and marched us into the woods. Sparkle shoes and all.©janetphillips_april11_2016_web-8.jpg

©janetphillips_april11_2016_web-21 copy.jpgWe headed into the field of pine, she stopped abruptly and said, “I think I want to be a model when I grow up.” I simply said, “Okay,” trying to figure out where she had even heard such a term.  Then she said, “See, like this.”

©janetphillips_april11_2016_web-12 copy.jpgShe then tried to teach little brother. He didn’t want anything to do with it.

©janetphillips_april11_2016_web-18 copy.jpgTrying a new tactic for his participation in her fantasy world, she declared, “Let’s dance!”

©janetphillips_april11_2016_web-16 copy.jpgThey danced, arm-in-arm, for a few minutes. And then we kept “hiking.” A few leaves and rocks were found.

©janetphillips_april11_2016_web-9 copy.jpgFour minutes later, we were back at our campsite and the hike was considered done.

©janetphillips_april11_2016_web-17.jpgIt was worth every minute.

Look at My Pockets

Lightofthemoon.jpg

Look at this boy.

I couldn’t love him and all his three-ness any more. I ADORE three. I could handle a dozen three year olds, especially when they are like him!

A few weeks ago at church, he was getting squirrely toward the end of the service. If he was my first child, I probably would have spoken sternly and insisted he sit still all the way until the end.  But as he is number six and I have learned to care far more for my children’s hearts than the pride attached to their “good” behavior, I brought him out into the foyer. He’s a little boy and he needed to move.

We were in the foyer and I had my camera since I had been photographing a baby dedication. He was standing in front of the double doors and he was being his cute self. He looked down at his shorts and realized he had pockets. He stuck his hands in them and said, “Look at my pockets!” I look and he said, “Take a picture of my pockets!” I obliged, of course.

Feeling loved and heard, he went along being his goofy self, letting me take photos as I pleased.

This boy has my heart.

About

God's goodness is everywhere, if only we open our eyes to look. I choose to see His love, grace, and mercy everywhere I go. Whether it is capturing my own kids and their silly antics or watching your family practice theirs, I love to see glimpses of His goodness and to share them with others.
